Self is the best Master A lark had made her nest in a wheat field. One day while she was feeding her chicks, the farmer came by to inspect the wheat. The larks heard him say that it was time to harvest the wheat. “Ma, will he destroy our nest?” asked the oldest chick. “Let’s move to a safe place!” “We don’t have to worry yet,” the lark consoled her young one. “We have enough time.” Two days later, the farmer returned and looking at the wheat that had grown very ripe, he said aloud, “I shall ask the neighbours to reap my field for me tomorrow.” The baby larks were frightened but their mother assured them that they had no reason to worry. Days passed before the farmer returned to the field. “I shall hire some labourers and with their help, I will personally harvest the field tomorrow!” said the farmer looking at the grain that had fallen down from the ripe wheat. When the lark heard this, she said to her young ones, “It’s time for us to move from here.” “Why do you say that now, Mamma?” they asked her. “Since the farmer said that he will harvest the wheat himself it means he is dead serious,” said the lark. MORAL: A work gets done only when you rely on yourself the most. Self is the Best Master!!
