Selma...I am Selma. You are Selma. We...are Selma. As I watched - TopicsExpress

Selma...I am Selma. You are Selma. We...are Selma. As I watched this movie I was transported to an era that helped mold me. That helped mold us. Black, white, latino, asian...it didnt matter. We all were molded in some form or fashion. Our parents and grandparents were either marching, watching the struggle on TV or listening to the struggle on the radio. I just cant imagine folks not being glued to what ever device they had to follow this historic event. This isnt the first movie made regarding the march. There are countless movies that show all of what we see in the movie, Selma. However, this movie will help you to understand...nay, that will REMIND you that we all have fundamental rights as Americans that were fought for...earned with blood, sweat, tears and often time, with a life. How can you not go out and vote, knowing what our forefathers had to go through to allow us to freely vote? I am reminded of the lady that came into the restaurant and spoke with me about her struggle during the civil rights movement...and I was mesmerized. To live during that era, especially in the south took guts, strength and faith that was surely the size of a mustard seed. How can we not fight for our families, how can we not continue fight for equality, how can we not fight to own a piece of the pie that we baked? I feel rejuvenated after watching the movie, not because it was Dr. King, but more so because it was a reminder that we came from a strong people...that we are resilient and that we persevere. I may not reach the mountain top with you, but I promise you that I will fight to get there. Dr. King...was not perfect. He was not flawless. He was dedicated to the cause and fought for what he believed in. What are you all willing to fight for...to die for? Dont take that in the literal sense though. What are you soooooooooo passionate about that you will fight the devil (and win!) to get it done? There is a quote that I live by. Well, there are a few, but these two are my constant reminders, INSPIRE so others can ASPIRE. The second one, Stand for something or fall for anything. We...are Selma! They inspired so that we could aspire! They stood for something so that we wouldnt fall for anything...We...are Selma!
