Selorm Branttie writes: I just read the transcript of Felix Ofosu Kwakyes Press conference........ 1. No mention of the word economy. Not even once. 2. No mention of the forex interventions and their effect on businesses. Not even once 3. No mention of the cedi depreciation and plans to halt it. Not even once. 4. No mention of how Ghanaian industry is going to be assisted to be competitive. Not even once. 5. No mention of how the government was going to fund its myriad subsidies and put confidence in future refined petroleum purchases. Not even once. 6. No mention of tax breaks and funny taxes to overtax the 20% already being taxed for everything in Ghana. 7. A litany of statistics on school education doesnt mean diddly squat when you see school children in JHS 2 Not able to spell their names. Schools are filthy and dont even have chalk. 8. Our lecturers are not being given adequate research facilities and all the tertiary schools teach is business studies. Please! 9. Dont even yip yap about water. Enough time and mistakes and Roman Aqueducts and the Parisian water sewers in the 1800s are still better than what we have in the streets of Accra. 10. No effort has been made to even appeal to the sense of an absolute absence of accountability for decisions made that have stepped us backward... That is a shame. 11. No mention of what is being done to recoup poor investments in the great DAHs (Gyee, Su, etc) 12. No announcement on a more transparent and rigorous approach to policy formulation 13. NO indication of a resolve to be more inclusive in policy design. 14. As for the road thing, it perfectly reflects the philosophy of the current governmental mindset: Just one example: The so-called completed Tetteh Quarshie to Madina Road, has no markings, piles of sand by the road, drain holes always clogged during rains, and 6 walkover bridges for pedestrians with no stairways, just the bridges with iron rods sticking out and the tarmac cut at the foundations of the supporting pillars. Remember that the roads were finished with barriers between the two lanes before the bridges were built as an afterthought. How do you expect Zongo junction, Redco Junction, Ritz Junction and SDA Junction trotro passengers to cross the roads? THere are no Traffic lights on these roads too. Of course, being Ghana, we are all waiting for the irate driver and the poorly timed pedestrian to die before we do anything. We love gloating over ticking time bombs. 15. No mention on poor sanitation in the metropolis and how the govet is helping the sanitation and refuse people with a new landfill site 16. No mention on what is being done to certify buildings properly and prevent flooding apart from field trips by the Holy Bearded One... 17. No mention at all on even the Senchi Consensus and how we are going to fast-track these resolutions.... Then you come out and read me a revised version of the budget like I am some screaming footsoldier? Obviously we havent been heard, or they were tuned in to the wrong station when we were talking, or they just dont give a hoot, or they are probably not sure of what we want, need and aspire to as a nation? I am lost people, I am lost. #RedFriday #OccupyGhana #OccupyFlagstaffHouse #OccupyParliament, we are coming. Better do right by Ghanaians. We deserve far better.
