Sembène African Film Festival Partners with Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Homewood To Celebrate Music for Black History Month February 10, 2014 6:14 PM Sembène – The Film & Arts Festival, in concert with the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Homewood, is celebrating Black History Month with the theme: “Celebrate Music”. The partners are thrilled to announce the screening of three groundbreaking, award-winning music documentaries about: • Hip-hop out of Senegal which has had a huge impact on Senegal’s political and social scene; • The Rocksteady era of Jamaican music – the musical predecessor of Reggae and considered by musical scholars as the Golden Age of Jamaican Music; and • Internationally known hip-hop artist Sister Fa’s campaign to use hip-hop, art and culture to abolish Female Genital Cutting in her native Senegal. All films in the month of February will be screened on TUESDAYS, at 5:30 PM in the auditorium of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh –Homewood, 7101 Hamilton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15208. Doors open at 5:15 PM. The films are free of charge and the public is welcome. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
