Seminar on OPT/CPT with MIT Asian Career Fair In this seminar we will address the eligibility and procedural requirements for Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT). International students who want to work in the United States are highly encouraged to attend the seminar to learn about these two types of work authorizations that are required by the government. Date: Tuesday, September 16, 2014 Time: 6PM - 8PM Registration: asiancareerfair.mit.edu/new-events/2014/9/16/optcpt-event-by-opt4americaorg Location: MIT E51-315 (Building E51, Room 315) Parking: Free Parking outside of E51 Public Transportation: Take the MBTA Red Line and get off at Kendall/MIT station Speakers: Danielle Guichard-Ashbrook (Director and Associate Dean, MIT International Student Advisor) Gustavo Bottan (Founder of OPT4America.org) About MIT International Student Office The International Students Office (ISO) serves approximately 3,000 international students who attend MIT, 900 newly admitted MIT students, and 500+ dependents. The ISO provides the following services to MIT students: Advise on immigration regulations by individual appointment and group seminars Prepare legal documents that allow international students to gain work experience through a period of practical training Provide forms required by international students and their dependents to travel outside the U.S. Process legal documents required for the admission of all international students (including undergraduate, graduate, special, exchange, and visiting students) Organize orientation programs for entering international undergraduate and graduate students The ISO also sponsors events and programs to help students adjust to life in the U.S. and at MIT, and provides counseling related to emergencies and unexpected immigration problems. About OPT4America.org OPT4America.org was formed to retain foreign talent in the United States and empower the formation of early stage start-ups while promoting a global mindset. Our mission is to channel graduates to entrepreneurial organizations and help the graduates and the organizations they work for with coaching, education, and mentoring. In this presentation we will discuss the genesis of OPT4America.org, the Optional Practical Training (OPT) path to gaining work experience in the US - benefits, procedures, and consequences of using it; the programs we are currently launching, how to register with OPT4America.org, and the advantages of participating in our partners’ and our OPT based internships. About Gustavo Bottan Gustavo is a 1996 MIT Sloan Fellows graduate with a 30+ year’s career in engineering, sales/marketing, strategy, and business development. He has held positions in global corporations and in early stage start-ups, conducting business around the world. Gustavo has also started two consulting businesses, and is the founder of OPT4America.org. He has developed educational programs for international students, and a broad network with governments, private sector, recruitment entities, academia, and with the innovation and entrepreneurial sector in the greater Boston area. He has lived in Argentina, Sweden, the United States, Italy, and most recently worked in China, interacting in 6 languages. As an immigrant of many years to the United States himself, Gustavo has a keen understanding of the many aspects of adaptation to American cultural and work practices, which he shares as a volunteer mentor to students and start-ups.
