Seminar on cyber security at Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences TNN | Apr 12, 2014, 11.17 AM IST ALLAHABAD: A two-day national seminar on social media, cyber monitoring and security was organized by the department of forensic science of SHIATS (Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences) on Friday. The chief guest on the occasion was DG, cyber emergency respond team India, Dr Gulshan Rai while the pro vice-chancellor, Prof Newman Fernandes and director of forensic science laboratory, UP, SB Upadhay were the special guests. Speaking in his inaugural note, Gulshan Rai emphasized on several aspects of social media communication. He gave details of the scale on which social interaction are taking place in the cyber world. Rai warned about various areas that create problem for the people and the society. He said social monitoring is a great challenge for the forensic experts. Importance of the changing laws in a fast changing digital cyber world was also discussed. Likewise, director of forensic science laboratory, Lucknow, SB Upadhayay recounted his experience in daily cases having electronic social media connection. PVC (Academic) SHIATS, Prof Fernandes emphasized that the young people must become more aware of the negative aspect of social media. He urged the experts of the field of forensic science and computer science to provide knowledge to young people for a safer digital identity. On the suggestion of Prof Fernandes for the establishment of cyber cell at SHIATS, Dr Rai assured to provide assistance in establishing a cell in the institute.
