Sen. Aaron Bean will host a public meeting tomorrow to review a resolution that as been presented to the State Legislature by the Ocean Highway and Port Authority revising OHPA’s commission elections process. The OHPA is seeking to clarify how its commission elections are conducted in the future. The proposed amendment to the OHPA Charter would formalize a partisan election process for all future OPHA Commission elections. OHPA elections have traditionally been conducted as partisan, however the elections were legally supposed to be held as non-partisan-- at least since 2005. The meeting will be begin at 4 p.m. in the Nassau County Commission Chambers located in the James S. Page Governmental Complex at 96135 Nassau Place, Yulee, FL. This is a good time to suggest elections not be partisan and instead operate in a non-partisan manner (such as city elections) so that future candidates who are non-aligned and able to bring new perspectives to the process would be welcomed to run. Anyone who submits a speaker card at the meeting may speak.
