Senate Leader Eulogises Late THISDAY Correspondent Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba yesterday visited the family of the Cross River State Correspondent of THISDAY Newspapers, late Jude Okwe, who suddenly passed on last Wednesday in Calabar while preparing to go to work. Ndoma-Egba was received by the children of late Okwe and brother to the deceased Dominic Orim at the Calabar residence, Itam off Mbukpa road in the Calabar South local government area of the state. The Senator, who extolled the virtues of the late prolific writer, described him as a journalist who would be missed by both the political and journalism industry and advised the children to emulate those virtues often exhibited by their late father when he was alive. The Senate Leader assured the deceased’s wards of his readiness to give his assistance particularly when the need arises, and urged them to ensure that they conduct themselves properly throughout this trial moment. Ndoma-Egba, who had earlier made a brief visit at the Ernest Etim Bassey NUJ centre, Calabar to sign the condolence register, prayed that God Almighty would surely see the children through in this period of grief. In the condolence register, the Senate Leader noted that the deceased “lived for values and stood on principles. You will live forever in our hearts, great, courageous and principled friend, rest in peace”. Responding, the senior daughter of the deceased, Supol Julian Okwe, thanked the Senator for coming to commiserate with them especially now that death had stolen their father and lauded him for all the support given to their father when he was alive. The deceased daughter also solicited for the support from their fathers’ friends especially now that some of the daughters were still preparing to go for NYSC. Also speaking, Chairman of the Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Ndoma Akpet, said NUJ would work together with the deceased family to ensure that they give the late reporter a befitting burial.
