Senate summons Moro as Board denies involvement in ill-fated Immigration recruitment exercise Following vehement denial by members of the Board of Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence and Prisons and Fire Service that they were not involved in the ill-fated immigration recruitment, the Senate Public Accounts Committee has summoned Interior Minister, Abba Moro to defend himself. About 20 youths died in four centres of the recruitment. Members of the board told the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts that at no time did the board discuss the issue or approved the recruitment. A Commissioner on the board, Mr. S.D. Tapgun, who led some members and heads of agencies to the committee in Abuja, said only Moro and his team of consultants could explain how they came about the exercise. Tapgun added, “The Interior Minister and the consultant he engaged for the exercise can tell Nigerians exactly what happened. “Even the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service was not involved; he was not part of the recruitment at all and there was no board resolution to recruit anybody. “When we, the members of the board, learnt about the recruitment,we wrote the minister that we are not in support of engaging the services of a third party to conduct recruitment for the Immigration service but he ignored our letter and went ahead to engage the consultant. “The consultant fixed every thing including a N1,000 fee, which they claimed was administrative charge.” He informed the House committee, which is chaired by Mr. Solomon Olamilekan, that the board members were prepared to face Moro any day to disprove any claim that he had board approval for the exercise. According to him, 693,000 youths applied for the jobs and paid N1,000 each
