Cochran Sides with Harry Reid – Again Laurel, MS - Thirty-five-year incumbent Senator Thad Cochran sided with Democrat Harry Reid in opposing a Republican measure to curtail fraudulent government payments. Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) offered an amendment that would have prevented people who already receive unemployment insurance from double dipping and collecting Social Security disability payment at the same time. A majority of Republicans voted for Sen. Vitter’s fiscally responsible amendment, but Sen. Cochran joined the Democrats in opposing it.
