Senator Cynthia Villar, who chairs the Senate Committee on #Agriculture and Food, said the growing international #coconut sugar signals a “bright future” for coconut growers who are considered the poorest sector of the #farming industry. “While the average income of #farmers is P150 per day, ang coconut farmers ay kumikita lamang ng P50 per day,” Villar had earlier said in one of the hearings of her committee. Villar pointed out that with the growing demand for coco sugar comes the creation of more enterprises which would also translate to more livelihood opportunities for coconut farmers especially in the Bicol region. Coconut sugar is made by cooking the sap derived from unopened coconut flowers. gmanetwork/news/story/398286/economy/agricultureandmining/senator-sees-bright-future-for-farmers-with-growing-global-demand-for-coco-sugar
