Senator Kajwang’s Death Implications By OGUTU Gordon Much - TopicsExpress

Senator Kajwang’s Death Implications By OGUTU Gordon Much has been said about the death of the singing-senator Kajwang’s death since he passed on in Mater hospital on Tuesday around midnight. A lot has also been said about circumstances surrounding his mysterious death as a section of CORD legislators allege foul play. Official postmortem results are yet to be released though it’s expected that they will be out today. The death of ‘Mapambano’ is a huge blow to ODM, people of Homa-Bay County, Kenyans, and mostly to Raila Odinga. While Kenyans have lost a true and dedicated leader who had passion for good governance and leadership, ODM party has lost a staunch and loyal member whose replacement probably will never be found given the latest squabbles that have been in the camp over alleged infiltration by moles. The late Kajwang’ was one of the pillars of ODM and to the CORD coalition. He believed in the party entirely and his loyalty was quite evident from the statements he made at his party’s political rallies. He would say with zeal and passion that he only knew how. At one point he was jokingly compared the popularity of the party to God. He was someone who used humor to comment on national issues. To the people of Homa-Bay County, the loss of Kajwang’ is tremendous. He always put the County on the map. The politics of the county is affected as well. He was the regional ‘King Maker’. The success of most MPs from the South Nyanza can be attributed to Kajwang’. Gwasi MP-Hon John Mbadi confirmed this in a special parliamentary seating on Wednesday when he said that it was because of Kajwang’ that he managed to be elected as an MP. His death has opened way for other politicians. One of his fierce rivals-Hillary Alila for a long time has tried his luck in politics without success. He tested his political prowess when he ran for the Senatorial seat which he lost terribly to Kajwang’. He later jumped ship to another party but would still fail to clinch the seat. Alila might just take this opportunity now that his political nemesis is gone. Another political green-horn Sam Wakiaga could also run for the same seat. Wakiaga at one point was a thorn in the shoe to Kajwang in 2007 when he challenged him for parliamentary seat. To Raila Odinga, words cannot express his loss. He personally said yesterday in a press briefing that he has lost a trusted friend and a close confidant. Kajwang was very vocal on matters Raila and vehemently defended him. Politically, one might say that Raila’s last line of defence has finally been broken. His last loyal lieutenant is gone. This is because, compared to some other Luo Nyanza politicians, its only Kajwang who has never been accused of party disloyalty. Most remaining leaders are either suspected to be rebels or at one point been against the party leader; Dalmas Otieno, James Orengo and Evans Kidero. Kajwang’s death therefore has come at the worst time. It has probably disorganized the party more considering that the Orange house has been experiencing problems ranging from rebellion to invasion by moles. Rest In Peace Gerald Otieno Kajwang. As a member of Homa Bay County, we will miss you.
