Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst Announces Session Staff AUSTIN – Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst today announced key session staff positions in her Senate District 18 Capitol Office. “I am confident that my office has the right team in place to deliver results for Senate District 18,” Kolkhorst said. “As a lawmaker, you’re only as strong as the team you build around you, and I’m proud of the proven experience that this office will bring to the 84th Legislature. We will be poised to make a difference not only for the people in Senate District 18, but for all Texans. In the near future, we also will be creating new district offices and staff positions in Ft. Bend County and in Victoria. Staff Positions Announced by Senator Kolkhorst: Chris Steinbach, Chief of Staff Ross Giesinger, General Counsel & Legislative Director Ben Barkley, Senior Policy Analyst Matt Russell, Communications Director & Policy Analyst Corbin Marak, Policy Analyst Zach Maxwell, Policy Analyst Lauren Leining, Scheduling & Administrative Aide Cheryl Tiemann, District Director Betty McCarty, Legislative Aide Biographies: Chris Steinbach, Chief of Staff- Chris Steinbach recently served as the campaign manager for the Kolkhorst State Senate Campaign in 2014 and formerly served as Kolkhorsts Chief of Staff in the Texas House for 14 years. A graduate of New York University, he began his career as a college intern on the Late Night with David Letterman NBC program. He previously served as an executive for media companies including LionsGate and Oscar-nominee Sondra Locke, and has written and produced material for the History Channel, HarperCollins, as well as the late conservative political leader Andrew Breitbart. Ross Giesinger, General Counsel & Legislative Director- Ross Giesinger is an attorney who has served for the Texas Legislative Council during the 82nd and 83rd Legislatures. While at the Council, Ross provided legal advice to members and drafted over 1,500 bills, substitutes, and amendments, specializing in water districts, utilities, transparency, business & commerce, insurance, labor, and judicial law. Ross received his J.D., with honors, in 2009 from the SMU Dedman School of Law and graduated from the University of Texas in 2006 with degrees in History and Government. He is originally from Clear Lake. Benjamin Barkley, Senior Policy Analyst- Benjamin Barkley is an attorney and graduate of Boston College Law School. He holds a bachelors degree from University of Texas at San Antonio, where he graduated magna cum laude. In law school, Ben gained exposure to the criminal justice system by interning with the Fort Bend County District Attorneys Office. A recipient of the State Departments Critical Language Scholarship, Ben spent the summer of 2013 in Russia, studying the Russian language and culture. During the 82nd Legislative Session, he interned in the Texas House in the Kolkhorst office. He is a native of Ft. Bend County. Matt Russell, Communications Director & Policy Analyst- Matt Russell worked on the Kolkhorst and Abbott campaigns in 2014. He has served in the 83rd Legislature as staff for Representative Stephanie Klick and in the 82nd Legislature for Representative Kolkhorst. Matt holds a B.A. in Public Administration from Texas State University. While attending Texas State, Governor Rick Perry appointed him to serve as Student Regent for Texas State University System. He is a Brenham native. Corbin Marak, Policy Analyst- Corbin Marak served as a legislative aide during the 83rd Session for the Senator when she was a member of the House of Representatives. Corbin is currently a 2L at the University of Texas School of Law, and received his B.A., graduating summa cum laude, in 2013 from the University of Texas at San Antonio with degrees in Political Science and Legal Studies. He is a native of Pflugerville, Texas. Zach Maxwell, Policy Analyst - Zach Maxwell was born and raised in Cisco, TX. He is a student at Baylor University and is formally the Chapter Chairman of the Baylor Young Conservatives of Texas and now serves on the state board of YCT as the Chairman of Chapter Development. This election cycle Zach has worked on a number of campaigns including working as the volunteer coordinator for the Konni Burton Senate Campaign. Lauren Leining, Scheduling and Administrative Aide- Originally from Galveston County, Lauren obtained her B.A. from St. Edwards University in 2013. To prepare for her Masters in Public Health, Lauren interned with the Texas House Public Health Committee in 2014, contributing to the Committee’s 83rd Interim Report. She has also served as a scheduler and aide to Kolkhorst in the Texas House. Additionally, Kolkhorst announced that she will operate three district offices across Senate District 18. Longtime House district staffers Cheryl Tiemann and Betty McCarty will manage the current Brenham district office. New district offices and additional staff in Ft. Bend County and Victoria will be announced in the near future.
