Senator Simeon Olasunkanmi Oduoye, a former military administrator of Niger and Ebonyi states is dead. Oduoye who hailed from Ikirun, in Ifelodun local government area of Osun State represented Osun Central Senatorial District at the Senate from 2003 to 2007, passed on at his residence in Osogbo, Osun state on Friday evening. He was aged 69. The deceased, who retired as an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in 1999 ventured into politics same year. Confirming the death of the politician to Sunday Tribune, his eldest son, Mr Kayode Oduoye disclosed that his late father had been suffering from illness for some time. He said the late politician who was already planning for his 69th birthday celebration died inside his bedroom at his Osogbo residence. He said the death of the late politician would create a great vacuum which would be difficult to fill. Oduoye further hinted that the family would soon meet to discuss on the details of his burial. Condolence register had been opened at the deceased residence. Meanwhile, the former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, described his death as “a rude shock” and described him as “a patriot and one of the leading lights of Osun State”. According to him, Senator Oduoye as a police officer “gave his best to the nation. As a military administrator, he left landmark achievements in few states where he served, and as a Senator of the Federal Republic, he gave quality representation to our people.”
