Senator donates borehole to community. LAGOS—Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has handed over motorized borehole water project to residents of Odo-Nla at Ikorodu, Lagos, with a charge to residents to always ensure maintenance of public utility among others. Speaking on the occasion, Ashafa stressed the importance of the project to the community, noting that water was one of the most important God-given natural resources. He, however, reiterated his commitment and dedication to the improvement of the welfare of communities in the senatorial district and entire Lagos through the provisions of basic and social infrastructure. “Under my tenure, 30 boreholes have been installed in various communities across the senatorial district,” he said. “Some of our other constituency projects include construction of classroom blocks in 11 locations, two drainage channels, four Ambulance Points and one science laboratory; provision of 22 power transformers, street lights in three arterial roads, and one skill acquisition centre.,” he said. The lawmaker, who promised to capture more artisans in the ongoing weekly empowerment programme in the area, also advised the beneficiaries to cultivate maintenance culture towards the project. He said: “I would like to use this opportunity to urge the people of Tinubu Estate and other beneficiary communities that a high sense of community participation in these social interventions that we bring is a prerequisite for sustainability. “Please ensure that this borehole project is well maintained so that it will serve you and others for a long time. “ Chairman of the Estate, Engr. Adesanya Adekoya, expressed gratitude for the kind gesture. “We thank you distinguished Senator for this timely gesture, it is highly appreciated, I pray that God will grant you the zeal to keep doing more to the entire senatorial district “I assure you that the facility will be used for the purpose it’s meant for to the benefit of all,”Adekoya assured.
