Send the Light - words and melody written by Charles H Gabriel in 1890 when employed by Grace Methodist Church in San Francisco, CA. Some have referred to him as the Master of Missionary Music. Of the more than 8000 hymns he wrote (writing both words and music to most) is the evangelistic classic Send the Light, which has inspired missionaries for generations. This would become his first hymn to achieve real international commercial success. (Read his rather fascinating bio in the comment section below.) P.S. I was wondering why this sounds so “tinny” - especially the piano tone. Then I noticed in the video that the cord to the mic (mic itself is over on the wingback chair) is lying on the keyboard...not plugged into the laptop. LOL Of course I’d already erased the other tracks I’d recorded out of the keyboard - so it is what it is (recorded through the built-in laptop mic). ha! A tribute to Charles Hutchinson Gabriel. :-)
