Grandpa... a senior, carrying his age with dignity and grace.... a good looking dog with a graying snout, eyes a bit cloudy, joining us as his owner lost his home. Quiet in his kennel hes happy to be leashed and steps out easily heading for the door. Likely housetrained he took care of his business immediately and we head to the park. His leash manners are perfection as he walks quietly by my side. Hes alert on the street, listening to the unfamiliar sounds, seeing the unfamiliar scenery, but calm and resigned as we walk. Back in the building as we walk through the hall to go into the backyard there are lots of dogs around and he ignores them all, simply staying quietly by my side. Off leash he explores the pen, coming over to me often to check in, putting his head in my lap for some petting. Grandpa enjoys treats, taking them gently and giving me a little tail wag thank you. As is common with German Shepherds, Grandpas hips are a bit weak, but didnt stop him for enjoying his walk with me, or his time off leash. Quiet, calm, gentle, easy, this senior boy is handling his upheaval well. He should be curled up on his bed with his favorite person by his side, instead of with us wishing for a new family. Im still thinking about him, and my heart hurts. Will you open your heart and home to this senior who will give you so much in return?
