Senior Boys Football v Cranborne Middle School Thursday 6 March Match Report by Mr Harris The Senior Boys football team continued their impressive run in the PEDSSA cup with a hard fought 6-3 win over Cranborne Middle. Playing on a much improved surface at King George’s field after a spell of dry weather, the Sky Blues were looking to qualify for the semi-finals of the regional competition in the school’s first ever year. Things did not start well for the home side who conceded 2 own goals in the first 20 minutes, giving themselves an uphill task to get back into the game. Cody Littleford halved the deficit for Swanage on 19 minutes when his well-timed run was followed by a composed finish over the goalkeeper into the roof of the net. Swanage now had the momentum and restored parity shortly before half-time with a neat turn and finish from the on-form Henry Counsell. With scores level at the break, the impressive Matthew Dunster got the home side off to the perfect start in the 2nd half as he bent the ball with his right foot into the top corner from 15 yards out. Dunster and Captain Marcus Smith continued to dominate the midfield and the home side’s pressure told once again on 43 minutes as Henry Counsell slotted his second of the game with a deft lob over the on-rushing Cranborne keeper. A strong Cranborne side were still putting pressure on the Sky Blues and reduced the arrears when PEDSSA player Davey Lucas capitalised on some indecision in the Swanage backline to nip in and bring the score back to 4-3. Corey Furmage, playing in an unaccustomed right back position, was looking solid for the home side and it was his strong tackle deep in his own half that led to a swift counter-attack allowing Counsell to complete his hat-trick on 52 minutes. As time ticked away, Cody Littleford added a 6th for Swanage rounding the keeper before rolling the ball into an empty net to complete a satisfactory win for the home side. Attention now turns to the year 7 girls and boys sides who both face cup games next week against Purbeck and St Michaels respectively.
