Senior Finance Officer mercy corps - Basrah ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Oversee daily cash count with the finance officer 2. Develop and maintain relationship with bank(s) in Basra. 3. Prepare bank payment vouchers and ensure that all bank transactions are properly and fully documented 4. Record bank payment vouchers daily in Mercy Corps software system. 5. Monitor cash and bank balances and coordinate monthly cash flow requests from sub-offices; prepare consolidated field cash flow requests to Country office. 6. Provide financial review of payment requests and expense reports (travel expense reports and operational expense reports) for accuracy and completeness (per policies and procedures), ensuring expense reports are fully approved before payment. 7. File all bank vouchers and maintain voucher filing system such that files are updated, complete and safeguarded. 8. Maintain the bank file, ensuring that all bank information is properly filed and updated 9. Maintain the lease and rental agreements file and prepare monthly amortization entries of prepaid accounts 10. Prepare monthly payroll based on information provided from HR and timesheets; prepare payroll accrual entry 11. Maintain benefits accrual documentation and prepare monthly benefits accrual entries 12. Prepare monthly expatriate payroll advance documentation 13. Prepare the allocation journal entries (clearing of pool accounts) 14. Assist with month end balance sheet account reconciliations 15. Assist in the training and support of the finance officers in field offices, including answering daily questions, training new hires, making field visits, etc. 16. Make sure that all supporting documentation is prepared and filed according to MC procedures. 17. Assist the Finance Manager in responding to audit inquiries 18. Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission 19. Other duties as assigned. Skills KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Two or more years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, including experience with double-entry accounting A degree in accounting or a relevant business field Strong computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel Familiarity with computerized, double-entry accounting software Strong organizational skills as well as attention to detail Excellent oral and written English skills Company Profile Mercy Corps turns crisis into opportunity for families in some of the worlds toughest places.
