Senior Mine Planning Engineer – Underground . Headquartered in Toronto, Barrick has over 20 mining operations with many advanced exploration projects located across 5 continents and a large number of tenements located on some of the most prolific and prospective mineral trends. In the Australia Pacific region, Barrick has 3 operating mines and a regional head office located in Perth, Western Australia. Papua New Guinea Barrick (Papua New Guinea) Limited, the operator of the Porgera Mine, is part of the Barrick Gold Corporation group of companies which has interests in mines in Australia, the Porgera mine in Papua New Guinea and exploration interests throughout the region. Position Objective The Senior Mine Planning Engineer – Underground prepares life of mine plans, cut-off grade compilations and reports and design reserve shapes and development for the Underground operation. Duties and Responsibilities: • Prepare the underground life of mine (LOM) plan with support from the Underground Superintendents; • Prepare LOM designs for underground development and ensure LOM projects are communicated effectively to the Underground Manager and Superintendents; • Prepare Xeras operating budget and LOM physicals for capital budget including mid-year and year end ore reserves estimates including COG optimisation and calculation; • Collect and analyse information to assess performance statistics, statutory requirements, systems efficiencies and business improvement initiatives. To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following: • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related discipline • Significant experience in Long Term Planning (5yrs +) • Significant experience in Life of Mine Planning exercises • Senior experience within an Underground Production or Planning role • High level experience in use of mine planning software • High-quality computer skills in MS Office application are essential • The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees • Previous experience working in PNG or other developing countries, desirable • Current Drivers Licence. The candidate must hold a valid passport with more than six months validity for travel purposes to the Porgera Mine Site. The candidate must hold Australian Permanent Residency and be able to work in Australia. The position is fly in/fly out from Cairns on a 16/12 roster. The company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.
