Senior MoS Masagos Zulkifli: Im glad that our society values religious and racial harmony and collectively do not tolerate anything that threaten this peace. Indeed our communities and their leaders support the government to take all steps to prevent communal conflicts and disrespectful exchanges between different communities - the danger always exist a we have communities with diverse and sometimes opposite views. We must take lesson from incidents like these and be proud of our own value systems. We pace our changes ourselves and not pine for alien ones that when implemented abruptly may be disruptive to the peace we know. The government will do its best to keep our harmony and defend our security when threatened. But lone wolf attacks and distantly related terrorist acts are hard to detect and prevent. Everyone has a part to play. The public must alert the authorities to possible threats. We must work together in times of peace so that we heal quickly after a tragedy. If we value this peace then each community must work together to strengthen our religious and racial harmony. Watch this video interview with Senior MoS Masagos: When the first terror arrests were made here in 2001, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli was head of Muslim welfare group Perdaus. He saw close-up how Singapore came to terms with the terror threat by working closely with the Muslim community. As radicals pose a global threat, most recently in the Paris attacks, he tells Nur Asyiqin Mohamad Salleh about the key role the Islamic community and society play in keeping extremism at bay.
