Senior Process Controller Gr 2 (Ref No. 12138) Closing Date: 04 October 2013 Business Unit: Natref Location: Sasolburg, Free State, South Africa Reports to: Foreman Operations NCF II Job Type: Permanent Level of Experience: 5 - 10 years Position Summary Main purpose: Efficient operation of the plants in the Clean Fuels Functional responsibilities: Compilation of procedures for new units. Operate the unit optimally, safely and within the design parameters Assist with construction completion which includes, for example, punching, flushing and other commissioning activities. Work together in a team to ensure the business unit strategies are met in a safe, reliable, efficient and responsible manner. This includes the use of a DCS system to monitor, control and optimize plant parameters remotely Required Functional outputs: Required outputs include but are not limited to: • Be the outside senior operator or operate the plant from DCS • Report process deviations to the Foreman on shift • Compile relevant area shift report at the end of shift • Examine equipment and complete safety checklists. • Report all at risk behaviors and unsafe conditions to the Foreman on shift • Maintain required housekeeping standards • Applying standard operating procedures • Understand equipment failure modes and defect identification and reporting • Demonstrate understanding of how equipment functions • Hazard identification and conduct basic fault finding • Conduct safety management system inspections • Conduct basic risk assessments • Monitor and pro-actively control plant conditions, product qualities, product volumes according to the production plan and laboratory results • Control and adjust plant conditions during emergency situations to prevent equipment damage, injuries, loss of containment or product contamination. Must be able to make quick decisions • Act proactively to prevent alarm conditions, upsets and deviations to ensure stable plant operations • Visually examine/inspect machinery/equipment to ensure the equipment is in a good working order and to create defects for substandard conditions • Must do self-training and be a fast learner • Interact with process engineers and SHERQ to provide operational inputs regarding MOC’s, PDA’s, general plant conditions and incident investigations Job Requirements • St 10 / Grade 12 / N3 ( Maths, Science and English), NQF 4 (Chemical Operations) will be an advantage • Basic operation knowledge of compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, distillation towers, reactors, valves, instrumentation, sewer systems, utility systems • Must be healthy General • Adhere to all safety regulations and work standards • Practice good housekeeping • Comply with legal requirements. • Prepared to do physical and uncomfortable work. • The successful candidate must be willing to work shifts. He / she will be required to do shift cover and work overtime (in accordance with legislation). • Active participation in Behavior Based Safety • Manage emergency situations.
