Senior Systems Administrator - BFA Photography OrganizationSchool of Visual Arts Websitesva.edu LocationNew York, NY CountryUnited States SectorAcademic/Education Position LevelExperienced (Non-Manager) Education Requirement4-Year Degree Position TypeFull Time Permanent Description JOB TITLE: Senior Systems Administrator DEPARTMENT: BFA Photography STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Digital Lab Manager, Director of Operations, and Chair of the Department POSITION OVERVIEW: Works independently to install and configure server systems, create system client images and deployment for Macintosh based network architecture and maintains Open Directory database. Responsible for daily operations, implementation, maintenance and continuous operation of all technology related issues for the 500+ students, faculty and administration of the BFA Photography department while maintaining supportive, positive and professional relationships. WORK SCHEDULE: M-F, 8:30am - 4:30pm DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Server, Network and Systems Administration: • Recommend, plan and implement future computer lab expansions and technological Departmental growth pertaining to networking, server and client systems • Develop, deploy and test server and local and networked client systems • Configure and maintain Open Directory data base • Install, configure and maintain DNS/DHCP servers and related network hardware • Maintaining FileMaker server and database • Recommend and plan departmental network architecture and equipment needs • Liaison between networking department and BFA Photography department • Coordinate with Digital Lab Manager to analyze and evaluate networking, server and client system usage • Perform routine maintenance checks and update installs on servers, local and networked client systems • Create and maintain back up of Departmental digital assets Technical Support & Maintenance: • Assist in implementing and maintaining Extensis Portfolio digital asset management system • Installation and maintenance of all software, hardware, and peripherals such as; Imacon and flatbed scanners and desktop and large format printers • Provide computer hardware and software support for digital labs, administrative, students, faculty, staff and dept. chair within the department • Address and solve student issues in respect to desktop, software, hardware and peripheral equipment needs • Enforce policies and procedures for computer lab facilities • Assist with managing off site equipment repairs • Advanced hardware and software troubleshooting • Assist students with lab related technologies • Assist with maintaining a color management system for student and faculty use • Ensure compatibility of all software, hardware, RIPS and plug-ins Departmental Support: • Streamline and determine digital submission requirements for various student projects and opportunities • Maintain departmental and special projects website • Maintain a digital archive and database of all matriculated student and alumni artwork • Liaison with outside vendors; Filemaker, Apple products and other server solutions • Update departmental and special projects websites • Attend meetings with managers, department head and IT department Training: • Conduct workshop for incoming students on digital lab policies and procedures • Train lab assistants in hardware/software installation, effective communication methods, general troubleshooting, promoting a more effective and efficient working environment QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional training. • Expert knowledge of Apple OSX and OSX Server required • Knowledge or UNIX and Windows 2008 a plus • 5-7 years experience preferred • Apple Certification preferred • Educational environment experience preferred • Expert Knowledge of Apple Remote Desktop • Essential skills include creating system images, deploying images over a network and creating custom scripts and application to handle preference, hardware and software conflicts • Expert knowledge of standards-based web design methodologies and technologies • Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware a must • Working knowledge of Photoshop, Adobe products, Microsoft products and other similar digital imaging packages • Working knowledge of FileMaker Pro • Working knowledge of Final Cut Studio, After Effects and HDSLR related equipment • Working knowledge of Casper Suite is helpful • Experience with traditional and digital photography • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with students and faculty to resolve problems • Excellent time management and organizational skills • Flexible with one’s work schedule (Schedule is subject to change) • Working knowledge of Extensis Portfolio Application Instructions School of Visual Arts has been a leader in the education of artists, designers, and creative professionals for more than six decades.
