Senior writer Reporting to the News Editor: eNuus, your Key Performance Areas include: Assist output editor to write final copy of news bulletin Check archives for specific identified news items Check electronic media (wires), articles of interest in newspapers and study oversees media Direct editor to cut pictures according to storyline, editing pictures and notes Identify stories through research, sourcing and networking Screen functions, events for possible newsworthy items Lay voice on tape Do news diary planning Brief reporters and cameramen on news stories Attend editorial meetings Sub news stories Stand in as output editor or producer, when required Requirements: A recognized Journalism qualification At least 5 years’ experience Good general knowledge, thorough understanding of South African politics and players involved as well as international current affairs Working knowledge of quality of visuals and scripts Ability to identify sources and network A developed culture of reading and news sense Ability to develop story ideas Work to strict deadlines and display initiative Excellent command of the Afrikaans language Good probing skills Good communication skills Note: This is a contract position only.
