Seniors Beware. A senior’s home is a dangerous. In my life I have spoken at the funeral several of seniors who fell in their home and it caused their death. One fell down his basement steps and never regained consciousness. Another fell going to the bathroom in the night, broke her hip and died shortly thereafter. You really do not have to be old to fall. So give some thought to having a night light so you can see to go to the path room. Have a sturdy rail on all stairs and use it. Yard work is another dangerous active. My closest friend from college until his died love caring for his yard. One afternoon he was trimming a hedge growing up his back porch rail. The porch was not even two feet high. He slipped, fell broke his arm and his hip. He spent the rest of his life in a hospital or a nursing home and a few months later I spoke at his funeral. He was a mere 72. May it would be good to get help with the yard particularly when any height is involved. Cars kill more people than guns in our country. I have spoken at the funerals of two seniors who drive down the wrong way on a four lane highway. I have done that myself once since I became a senior. In each case they and I were on roads we had driven many times. If you always drive in the right lane then you are unlikely to hit a senior like me going down the wrong way. Final a dear friend just this past Sunday fell on an uneven place on the floor of her home. She broke her neck in two places, scattered her right elbow and left knee. She is 77 and in intensive care. Please remember her in your prayers. I do not want my list of those dear friends who die from a home accident or car accidents to grow. Be careful as we age our balance declines, our eyes dim and our reflexes slow down.
