Seniors can tour Missouri State University Fruit Experiment Station Agriculture remains Missouri’s top industry, and the work going on at the Missouri State University (MSU) Fruit Experiment Station in Mountain Grove is designed to advance the state’s fruit crops. The station conducts plant science research and advisory programs in commercial fruit crops. One area of focus is viticulture—the science of producing grapes. According to the Missouri Wine and Grape Board, Missouri has 118 wineries which provide more than 14,000 full-time jobs and an economic impact of $1.6 billion each year. Local seniors can learn more during a free field trip, sponsored by Mercy St. Francis Hospital and the Mountain View Senior Center. It’s set for Wednesday, June 19. The bus will leave the Mountain View Senior Center at 12:30 p.m. Marilyn Odneal, a horticulture advisor with MSU, will lead the tour and complimentary wine tasting. While the event is free, you do need to make reservations to attend. Just call 417-934-6504 or drop by the Mountain View Senior Center.
