Sense and sensitivity: Can everyone feel pain? No. Pain is an element of sense perception which has a protective benefit for organisms from noxious agents. Without the sensation of pain, organisms life would be endangered. But all cannot feel pain. And as natures rule, their lives become endangered. We do not yet know whether we would have to pass through another ordeal of 1971 proportion to have the lesson home. The amount of illusion about our Pakistan legacy is rather unnerving. It appears that we may have to pass through the same or similar experience again. for we have not taken the lesson from history after 1971. That is obvious from the frequent call for another liberation war. One war was not sufficient for a historical lesson for us. Rather a dull student of history! I came across a patient when I was working in the BIRDEM. He was from Noakhali. When I saw him he was hardly twenty years of age. He would work in the field. He had discovered that he had no pain. When others would feel pain he would feel none. So, it became a sport for him. He discovered that even when he would introduce a two-inch nail into his feet he would not feel any pain and he could stand it smilingly. His friends became amazed at this. They asked how could this happen? Is he somebody with some special grace from the Almighty? He would demonstrate it to his friends in the field. and he became sort of famous for that. One day, he introduced a two-inch nail before some friends who had come from some distant place to see exactly that power of his. He introduced before the group of spectators a two-inch nail between his two toes of a foot. This time it was different. Before next morning, the foot became huge in size and foul smell started to come from the foot. They went to a local doctor, who examined his urine and found the sugar content to be high and he referred the case to BIRDEM. I took care of the foot and physicians look after the diabetes control. Not feeling pain may be the result of disease. There is nothing to be gloating about it. Some people claim that they are happy that they had wanted Pakistan. But what about the three million people who had lost their lives and two hundred thousand women ravished by the Pakistani marauders? And what about their successors who are ravishing now the Purnimas? These are the fallout of Pakistan. The marauding horde which are ravaging through the landscapes of Bangladesh are the legacy of Pakistan. Those who claim Pakistan to be right are the clandestine supporters of the carnage. If this does not cause excruciating pain in somebody, he must have some disease.
