Sense of Urgency What is a sense of urgency? I like the answer - TopicsExpress

Sense of Urgency What is a sense of urgency? I like the answer given to this question from answers – "being able to automatically detect those things in our daily lives that are goal achieving and which call for immediate attention and then acting on them until they are successfully completed." This is different than just being quick or hasty, and doing something for the wrong reason, or doing something just to do something. We understand the need to act properly and quickly in life threatening situations. In fact people are trained, they study and learn so that they can act properly and quickly. They apply what they have learned. “I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.” ~Leonardo da Vinci The opposite of sense is non-sense. The opposite of a sense of urgency is the choice of the non-sense of complacency. “We can try to avoid making choices by doing nothing, but even that is a decision.” ~Theodore Hesburgh Scriptures tells us, “Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit." 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” (James 4:13-14) What are you doing tomorrow? How about next week? Any plans for the new year? Do you think you will be doing something in the near future that is not planned? Who can calculate how long a vapor last? Who can build any solid hopes on a mist? Everything you have planned to do and everything not planned to do is all depended on being alive to do it or before the coming of our Lord. 155,000 people die every day! Of the 2.4 million plus Americans who die each year, over 45,000 are killed in transportation accidents. The number of homicides, poisonings, and drunk driving fatalities are roughly the same, at around 17,000 each. Perhaps more surprisingly, a stunning 178,000 Americans die from medical or hospital error every year. (CIA World Factbook). What could be more important, have more of a sense of urgency than to be ready to meet the Lord when this life is over or when the Lord returns? “You do not know what your life will be like tomorrow.” Mark 8:36-38 "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 "For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? We could be answering these questions in a vapors time! Bryan Bickford
