Sent: August 26, 2014 6:57 PM To: rafe@rafeonline Subject: Lack of oversight Hi Rafe, I am impressed with your hard-hitting article on the Mount Polley Mine disaster. Or as one Mine representative called it an accident, as opposed to negligent and deliberate acts by both Mine operators and by the Agencies supposedly acting as watchdogs. On another critical subject for Mr. Bennett is the latest press release this week from the Coalition to Stop Smart Meters BC, stopsmartmetersbc/ with more to follow, describing much the same absence of checks and balances. In particular the glaring absence of technical oversight of BC Hydro during the implementation of the $mart meter system. And the neutering of the British Columbia Utilities Commission by Order-in-Council and by the 2010 Clean Energy Act, and the non-involvement by the BC Safety Authority. So there is no-one except the Public to keep watch and call foul. There are so many parallels to the Mount Polley disaster and probably other tragedies such as Lake Megantic in Quebec, where Rules and Regulations were not followed and a lack of oversight resulted in 45 people being killed. I hope that you can use your wisdom and knowledge to highlight this BC travesty. Thank you and keep up the good work,
