Sent to the judge concerning teacher strike behavior: Your Honor: I have heard that you requested information about the conduct of striking teachers in Reynoldsburg, OH. I am a Grandmother of two grandchildren that attend the Gateway Gifted Program housed at Waggoner Road Junior High School. My deceased husband was a long time Junior High Principal at Pickerington so I had reason to support the picketing junior high and middle school teachers after educating myself on the issues. The Reynoldsburg community agrees with the teachers that class size, the turnover of teachers and administrators and fair compensation are valid issues we all support. I joined the picket line for an hour or more each day. For the last nine days, I go to the picket line to stand with the teachers and wave to the kids as the busses pull into their schools. I hold my sign along with the teachers as they chant We Miss You and the children on the bus chant REA, hold homemade signs and yell hello to their teachers. I have watched teachers hug their classroom children when they visit them on the picket line. I have heard teachers tell them to do their best; it is OK to attend school; and encourage them to do well. In these past nine days, I have not observed any teacher behavior that does not become a Teacher! Everyday, I am thanked for joining them. When a group picture was taken, I was invited to join them because of my support. Many a morning as I stand on the picket line, tears fill my eyes watching the bright smiling faces of these children so happy to see their teachers and to yell their morning greetings. It has truly been a pleasure for me to get to know these dedicated professional teachers. Oh sure, they are in costumes, write their signs in Spanish to encourage their kids to try to read their sign, and do other goofy things that teachers do to keep education interesting. Nothing in nine days have I heard has kept me from joining with these lovely people who I am proud to call my Grandchildrens teachers or I wouldnt have been down there! Thank you for asking. Thank you for helping our wonderful community where I have lived for 40 years, graduated 4 children and one grandson and hope you can help us get my two bright beautiful grandchildren back into school. Eight days is too long for them to not attend school. Respectfully, Linda Barry
