“Separation” 2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. This New Testament doctrine of separation is throughout the word of God. Many times we use this passage to help young people with the choice of picking a mate for life. Long distance relationships have a hard time making it after the marriage because the time spent together is very limited. Then the marriage and time will be spent getting to know one another but may not be healthy. In these verses we find a few golden nuggets to help with being able to separate one’s life before unbelievable atrocities occur. The first clue in helping a person is who to look for – a believer that has put Jesus Christ first in their life – Matthew 6:33. An unbeliever should not be a choice at all in the matter of marriage, that is if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Second, we find that one should be walking in the light of God’s presence with nothing to hide, being open to the truth of God’s word and with each other. Third, the worship experience does not include idols of selfishness or stinginess of the things of this world. God will dwell with them together inside their hearts and draw them close to Him and then to each other. The Lord will occupy this new home and glorify Himself as the two agree in what matters – the worship and praise of God in the home and in their church as they together serve the Lord. Amos 3:3, Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
