Separatist leaders placed under house arrest ahead of Eid Srinagar: Authorities on Thursday placed several separatist leaders under house detention in view of likely protests in Kashmir valley on Eid-ul-Fitr. However, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shalinder Kumar, said that there would not be any kind of restrictions on Eid. He said that appropriate steps would be taken to maintain peace if need arises. Pertinently, Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani has called for protests on the day of Eid against various issues including secret execution of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. Sources told KNS that strict instructions have been given to the police to intensify vigil around the Hyderpora residence of Geelani and not allow him to move out. Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah and National Front Chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan have also been placed under house arrest. The spokesmen of both the parties have condemned the house arrest of Shah and Khan. Senior Hurriyat leader and Chairman Salvation Movement Zaffar Akber Bhat was also put under house arrest. Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will offer Eid prayers at historic Eidgah in Srinagar. The Eid prayers would be held at 10 am and before that from 9 am onwards Mirwaz will deliver Eid sermon.
