Sept 21 Update Walter aka Clay aka Joe Almighty. This is a new dog that I have not talked about as yet but he has been hanging out with me since Sept 12th. He came to me after Lisa alerted me to his dilemma, and since Bryant is going to his new home soon, Walter came to stay with me awhile. Walter has so many names because everyone was giving him names before he got to me. I call him Walter the Wise, because for about the first week, he just studied me, like I was a specimen under glass. His skin was so tender that I didn’t try to touch him much or bathe him. I wanted to let the antibiotics and pain meds start to work and get him more comfortable. Walter is old beyond his years. Walter’s age is listed as 1 yr old, but he is definitely an “old soul”. I believe he was sizing me up when he was staring at me, and since then, he has wagged his tail exactly 2 times, 3 days ago when I came into the room he is in and spoke with him. I think I am making a very slow, possibly favorable impression on him, but because he has not wagged it since, I feel he is still reserving his judgment. He has ventured out of his bathroom area one time so far, even though I take down the gate to the hallway twice a day when I clean his room. Walter doesn’t approach me, but does stand up to eat while I am in the room which is something he didn’t used to do. He never cowered exactly, just watched and was wary. I don’t think I ever want to know what has made him this way, but am thankful that he is at least willing to wag his tail at me occasionally, and accept being here with me for now. His journey back may be a little longer than Bryant’s as he is a little older, and has more of a haunted look about him than Bryant ever did. These are his photos of his first week or so…
