September 12, 2014 Dear Parents and Friends, This morning we celebrated two very special blessings. Immediately following morning assembly, we gathered outside of the lower grade wing to unveil and bless our newest piece of sacred art, “Jesus Blesses the Children” created by Mrs. Sally Harrison. This is the second piece of art Mrs. Harrison (Ms. Sally to our children) has created for St. Catherine School, and we are deeply grateful. If you are interested in sponsoring “Jesus Blesses the Children” please call the school office for details. We then proceeded to the kindergarten building, formerly our library, where Fr. Anthony blessed the building and rededicated it to the late Mr. Mel Aqui, husband of our librarian, Mrs. Gloria Aqui. Mr. Aqui was an integral part of our school in the 1980s and 90s. Through the month of September we are participating in Foodlands “Give Aloha” fund drive. At any Foodland store throughout the state, you can make a donation to St. Catherine School (#77686) and those funds will be forwarded to St. Catherine along with additional funds from Foodlands charitable organization. You can make your donation more valuable by donating through the month of September at Foodland stores. This week parent-teacher appointment confirmation forms were sent home. Please make note of the day and time for your appointments. Because we only have 15 minutes for each session, it is important to be on time. Our teachers will do their best to keep to the schedule. Next Wednesday school photos will be taken. Please be sure that your child is in a clean school uniform (not PE uniform) for their annual photo which will appear in the yearbook. Our next PTG meeting will be held at 2:30 (right after school) in the kindergarten classroom on Tuesday, September 16. As St. Catherine School continues to grow we are considering programs which improve our school environment. We are in a process of continual improvement with a goal of excellence in all we do! The 5th grade Banana Split sale was such a huge success that on Friday, September 19, 3rd grade will host another to fund their literature program. Begin your weekend with a yummy treat and support reading! Thank you for your support! We are organizing our first School Beautification Day of the school year for Saturday, September 20 from 8 am until noon. We can use people with weed whackers, power washers, rakes, and gloves. We’ll provide a light lunch and water.
