September 19, 2014 Relief & Rehabilitation of KP’s in Kashmir, devastated by the Floods AIKS – KOA – KMECT Initiative – Phase II Friends, Namaskar! I returned yesterday evening to Mumbai after five days of harrowing experience at Srinagar. On 13th September, when me and my other two colleagues Aryan and Veer landed at Srinagar Airport, we witnessed the enormity of the destruction in the entire Srinagar city and the adjoining areas by the devastating floods. Since there was hardly any telephone connectivity, I could only communicate every evening with Col. Tej Tikoo and he in turn kept all of you informed about the situation on ground zero. I therefore need not repeat as to how we as a team did our small bit in ameliorating the sufferings of our brethren. Of course it was heartening to see how our folks across the country and globe got together and became part of the entire rescue/evacuation mission. Credit also goes to all the stranded KP’s, who with their own valour and determination, managed to finally reach to their destinations. As informed earlier, our Phase-II Mission starts from tomorrow the 20th September, which essentially shall revolve around Relief and Rehabilitation of our fellow brethren who actually are the residents of Shivpura, Indira Nagar, Raj Bagh, Jawar Nagar, Habba Kadal etc. We need to bear in mind that their houses with all the belongings have been destroyed and they are today living in makeshift arrangements, primarily at three locations i.e. Zeshta Devi Mandir, Durganath Mandir and Ganpathyaar areas. Keeping in mind that they will not be able to get back to their houses within the next three to four month’s time and the onset of winter starting next month, the challenge is to reach out to them with sufficient warm clothes, blankets, medicines etc. and of course the essential provisions. Tomorrow the 20th of September, myself and Mr. Sanjay Sapru from Gurgaon shall be travelling to Srinagar with the 1st lot of relief material in the form of Woolen Clothing and Medicines. After our return, we shall work out the exact requirements and continue with dispatching the same in the weeks/ months ahead. We shall keep the community informed once every week about the status and action plan. The entire 2nd Phase operation shall be led by Mr. Vijay Aima – Vice President, AIKS from Delhi.
