September 1982 I met my best friend and the person I knew Id grow old with. (Id state go gray with but Im never going gray.) ;) He was kind, thoughtful, handsome and a gentleman. On March 14, 1989 we got married in Las Vegas. Today is our 25th wedding anniversary and we are celebrating this milestone in peaceful Arizona. Weve been through so much in the past 32 years together. Weve been fortunate to have much joy but also been through some extreme sadness, especially the past few years. In 2011 our marriage took a detour. We were moving in separate directions and couldnt find our way back to each other. We were not communicating. Momentously bad decisions were made, decisions that almost tore us apart forever. At times like these you discover strength you didnt even know you had. I met a group of people that helped us find our way back to each other. I will be forever grateful. I am sharing this today because I hope others in long term relationships can learn from our mistakes. We are on the other side of a very painful few years. I have made a conscious decision to stay married to this good good man and not measure the past 30 years by the last few. I know Ive made the right decision. If you are in a relationship nurture it dont ignore it. Be respectful to your partner, always. Love them every day above all else. Lastly but most importantly - communicate. Communication is key in a long term relationship. Without it you can get lost. Happy 25th anniversary to my best friend Leon. Ill always love you and cant imagine my life without you.
