September 2, 2014: GOOD September morning! I am going to have to - TopicsExpress

September 2, 2014: GOOD September morning! I am going to have to get used to the September part. My brain continues to be in August mode. Heavy thunderstorms moved through portions of the region overnight. St Louis had golf-ball size hail earlier this morning! That was a bit outside of our region, but shows the intensity of the early morning activity. The heaviest rain overnight avoided far southern IL and western KY. We will have to see how much holds together as we move through the coming hours. Some activity continues to move out of southeast Missouri. Some of it has been weakening. Rainfall amounts overnight ranged from not a drop to as much as several inches. I will post a rainfall map in the comment section below. The week ahead will be warm and humid. There will at least be a chance for some scattered thunderstorms as we push through Wednesday. Perhaps lesser chances on Thursday. I would put the chances on Wednesday at 20% and on Thursday at 10%-20%. As far as Friday goes, some indicators are pointing to scattered thunderstorms on that day, as well. Perhaps in the 20%-30% range. Still a bit of time to watch football Friday. A stronger cold front finally makes its way into the region this weekend. That front could spark more showers and storms and some relief from the heat. Highs by the end of the weekend (and into the early part of next week) may only be in the lower 80s. That will feel better than the recent 90s. Still plenty of time to keep an eye on the weekend. I am sure there will be some adjustments to the forecast between now and then. Enjoy your Tuesday!!!! Radars are up and running - you can track todays precipitation. weatherobservatory/weather-radar.htm
