September 20, 1934. Today is the 80th Birthday of Ms. Sophia Loren, and today Italy is giving her a recognition as a national treasure. Imagine. Although she is now a French citizen and lives in a 50-room mansion, still Italy is claiming her as an national icon. She is a widow of her husband, producer/director Carlo Ponti. She is an international hollywood actress and has been recipient of many awards in the American arena. She is well remembered by me as the Countess from Hongkong, the Fall of the Roman Empire, Operation Crossbow, A Man From La Mancha, Arabesque, Yesterday, today and Tomorrow, Tale of Two Women (she won an Oscar for this Film), El Cid, and many more from her filmography. She has played roles opposite Charlon Heston for El Cid, Marlon Brando for Countess from Hongkong, and many more leading men of huge stature. Sa ato pud, the government should also recognize, as national icon for cinema the names of Anita Linda, Gloria Romero, Lolita Rodriquez, to name a few.
