September 2012 I put Dane on the bus to school after confirming with the bus driver the school, Danes name, and introducing myself and our entire family. I then drove to his school to take pictures of him getting off the bus. I watched every single bus come in only to see the last bus arrive and as it pulled up I knew it was not the bus I put him on. It was the start of the most frightening three hours of my life. Dane missing in NYC with no identification on him and non verbal. We were fortunate, very fortunate through the amazing efforts of the staff of his school ACDS he was quickly located. Even with that taste I will not say I can imagine what Avontes parents are going through. It terrifies me to say that the school he is missing from is the middle/high school to the elementary school Dane is a attending. The schools share th e same administration. I want to know why there is no answer to how this child was allowed to leave. I want to know where his teachers and para were. I would bet were he lost from home supervision or from a sitter these answers would be all over the press and someone would be facing charges of, at the least, negligence. I pray for you every night and day Avonte, may God have you in his sight.
