September 2014 Hello to Everyone, My term as President of PFLAG of Jacksonville comes to an end this month. It has been my pleasure to serve this wonderful organization and all of you. During the last year, I have tried to share with you some of my personal feelings and to keep you informed of our activities. I am not sure if everyone is aware that I have been involved with PFLAG of Jacksonville off and on since the very first meeting. It has been a challenging year, but one of sadness and elation at achieving many of the goals that I set for myself. Everyone who receives this letter and takes the time to read it is important to me and PFLAG of Jacksonville. All of you should know how dedicated the board members of PFLAG of Jacksonville are and how hard they work to keep this organization going. Everyone is a volunteer and spends many hours trying to make a difference to our LGBT sons, daughter, mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles, other family members and friends. You too, can stand up for what is right by becoming a member of PFLAG of Jacksonville, by attending our chapter meetings, sending in a resume to become a board member or by volunteering to work on a committee. It does take a village to make a difference, so I hope you will decide to get involved. These are exciting times as we have made some progress, but we still have a long way to go. Even though, I will no longer be President of PFLAG of Jacksonville, I will remain a member of the board of directors. If I can ever be of help to any of you, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am challenging you to step up to the plate and support the incoming President, Ellen Schmitt. She will be an excellent leader and is a very special person. I wish all of you the best always, Debbi
