Announcements A. Ice Breaker- Noah B. Student: Grace a. Wants to join SG • intern II. Approval of Minutes from September 19, 2013 with corrections Noah motions to approve the minutes Rae seconds 9 yes 1 abstain Motion carries III. Unfinished Business A. Community Service a. Breast Cancer Walk- 10/12/2013 • We will probably have to raise money • 7-11am b. Michael will sign us up B. October Tabling a. Our tabling is going to be World Smile Day. b. We’re also going to help DVAC by asking students what they would want to change DVAC’s name to • Ari will work on this c. Noah and Isaiah will work on “take one” poster • Students have to pull tab and give it to another student and they get a prize • Perhaps make one for the A-Frame d. Rae and Jenna will work on e. Ideas: • Smiley Face stickers • Good deed jar f. Whoever comes to table with tab and fills out the survey can get a prize g. Mike will send Lexer the blurb for Monday’s email blast h. Who’s going to be there • Isaiah, Michael, Mike, Rae, Amanda, Raymond IV. New Business A. UHCC Strategic Planning Meeting a. Nov. 8th- 8:30-4:30p.m. b. 3 reps. • Isaiah- 11:40a.m. • Jenna- 8:30a.m. • Raymond- 8:30a.m. B. T-Shirt Design Update a. Mike hasn’t received any designs yet • We’ll lay the designs on the table for students to vote • We’ll do it electronically if numerous entries b. Our SG t-shirts • Lexer will invite Joel to discuss with us next week • Mike talked to a vendor for our shirts C. Time Frame for Students a. When we have guests, we’re going to give them a time frame • Member who invited student should get info on what they wish to discuss for our meeting b. Time: 15 minutes c. No more than 2 guests d. We’re fine with them being in here when we discuss e. Just can’t be here when we vote on items D. Discovery Fair- November 2nd a. Lexer will send out the doodle link for scheduling • Make sure to sign-up if you can E. Goals Update 1. Better food options- Isaiah/ Amanda • Raymond, Isaiah, Amanda can talk to the café • Ask other food trucks if they wish to sell food on campus 2. Install Flo Water Stations- Raymond/ Noah • Mark Lane said no to this • We can push for filtered water 3. Shuttle between campuses- Rae/ Raymond • Rae is going to email HPU and ask them how they started their shuttle • Ray is trying to work on increasing the number of buses on routes through caucus 4. Professor tech interaction- Jenna/ Noah/ Joei • Brainstorming so far • Workshops • Simple survey • Last year teachers were calling for funding for other trainings 5. Resurface road- Raymond/ Michael • Ray is going to recheck with city council 6. Collaboration between campuses- Ari/ Jenna/ Rae • Community service • Better sharing of advertisement - Perhaps we need to get Pearl City events onto Leeward CC Wai’anae’s list serve - We always offer to bus students • Leaders from both campuses have a get together • Once a semester event to focus on mixture of Pearl City and Waianae campuses - It seems that Waianae campus likes the family community feeling of their campus over Pearl City campus - There are some students that take classes at Pearl City that are pretty well involved • We’ll table at Waianae once a semester 7. Collaboration between SG, SAB, and Ka ’Mana ’o- Jenna/ Amanda 8. Improve wifi- Joei • Therese will be stopping by at our next meeting • Joei made a Google docs for any questions 9. Lockers/ Showers- Mike/ Michael • Mike still looking into vendors for lockers 10. Promote recycling- Ari/ Mike/ Rae • Waiting for Joy Soma to be able to attend one of our meetings • Ka ’Mana ’o, flyers, etc… 11. New rules for FAFSA • Must have 2.0GPA • Students can appeal if they miss class • Classes must go towards degree • Must pass 2/3 of your classes e. Professors don’t want to see their course rate success • Some professors seem to take it personally f. Have students see course success rate g. Mentoring program for professors with poor success rate h. Warning Status: If student has 2.0 or below, then next Fall semester they will have to meet with counselor in order to remove pin 15.
