September 2nd 2014 - Vietnamese Pho @ Joyeaux Cafe Food** Service** Atmosphere** Rain Rain Rain... Fall is on the way?! Today I had lunch with one of my good friends at Joyeaux Café. Always nice to meet and catch up a bit with you, Wendy. Hope we can explore more good food in DT before winter comes. This cafe name is in French but its about Vietnamese food. The rating on Urbanspoon is quite good with some wave reviews. Its pretty much a self serve restaurant. You have to lineup to order first, get a card number from the cashier, and the staff will bring you the dishes when it’s ready. It’s like a fast food style. Nevertheless, I was lucky enough to have someone give me the menu while I was lining up, and take my order at the table! Lunch time is a rush hour, try to go early to beat the crowd. I ordered Rare Beef and Beef Ball Pho in this afternoon, the beef ball was a little bit stiff for me. Moreover, Beef Broth is always the SOUL of Pho to a bowl of beef noodle. The broth I had was okay, not too salty; but I expected the taste would be richer and thicker than this. When you ordered beef noodle, the restaurant only provided lime, but no fresh basils. The size of the noodles were thinner compared to other PHO places I have had. The quality of sliced beef tasted so-so, even though the beef were fresh, the sizes were small. Overall, its a social gathering place to grab a quick lunch at DT area. 551 Howe St Vancouver, BC V6C2T8
