September 3, 2014 Matt 25:34-36 (NKJV) 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me. I read a marquee the other day that struck my attention, “God has given you two hands, one to help yourself and one to help others. I thought, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all lived by that rule. I often set a goal, but I often do not accomplish it of helping at least three people every day. By helping I mean doing things like: saying an encouraging word to someone that is discouraged via personally, e-mail or a personal note, helping someone carry something that is a burden for them, visit someone, call a shut-in or do some other small act of kindness that made their situation a little easier. Let me echo this again, I don’t always accomplish that goal, however, I wish that I did. I think so often that we don’t do things because we always think we have to do something big. But I really believe according to our scripture today little things really matter. In today’s passage Jesus was giving what we call the “Parable of the Sheep and Goats” explaining what it was going to be like when Jesus judges the nations. Jesus took notice of them feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty, receiving the stranger, clothing the naked, visiting the sick or those in prison. As much as they did it unto others they were doing it as unto the Lord. It would be so much easier to minister if we could keep the focus that as we minister to others we are ministering to Jesus. One thing for sure, God has called His people to a life of service. I encourage you today to look for ways to serve others. You might just find the fulfillment in life that you have been looking for.
