September 30, 2014 Day 9 Last night was Date night at St Marys. The TV has a DVD slot so I picked up a few movies, some popcorn and a coke. It was great to hear the movie through the TV and not the little speaker on the call button panel by the bed. I went to the nurses’ station and popped 2 bags of popcorn and we even ate some of the chocolates Undertow Films sent. Mike was in a sweet spot where the pain meds were working but he was not so groggy that he couldnt enjoy the movie. It was uplifting to feel something normal. I also brought back some soft blue lounge pants. That hospital gown was driving Mike nuts and let’s faces it, having your butt hang out gets old. I have not worried too much about a shirt since he still has the tubes and tends to go shirtless anyway. In the enclosed picture Mike feel asleep holding my hand and guarding his tubes with the other hand. The nurse came in at 3:00 AM to check on Mike and found him standing in the middle of the room. He stands a lot especially at night as his back is too sore to lie in bed. Mike discovered a kink in his upper drain tube yesterday which may have contributed to the lack of positive results in his X-Rays the last couple of days. I woke to Mike sitting at the edge of my pull out bed using his Incentive Spirometer. He went from barley moving the indicator to taking it higher than I can with two good lungs. He said, “This is the only way we will get out of here.” I know he is trying hard to get us home. He is an amazing athlete with pointed drive. The X-Ray was taken this morning and the lung is unchanged so we wait.
