September 5, 2013 Evening Today has been a busy day. I started my day spending time with someone that is very special to me and was special to Christian and loved her. She offered great insight and it was just nice to be in her presence to start the day. I had my first Bible study of this school year today with a group of women that I dearly love. Our group is very interesting and diverse. I was invited to join this group by Jan Vance just a few months after Christian died. I treasured each of our meetings during the last school year and missed our time together this summer. It was so nice to be back together today. From Bible Study, I moved over to T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital. I needed to make a few T-Shirt deliveries and Dr. Anne Herdman-Royal had requested some Team CMB posters. I could never figure out how to get back into the area where her office is, so I slid the posters under the door and I hope they got to her. Walking in Children’s is always different for me now, I never know how I will feel or what emotions might hit. I passed one of my favorite people, Sugar Wheeler, the Social Worker in the Pediatric Oncology Clinic. She was with a family, so we just said hello in passing. I stopped at the ED desk and got permission to proceed to PICU. The first person I saw in PICU was Liz Weber and then Janna Clark and then Lori and Susan. PICU was never hard for me to visit after Christian died until the day we were doing photos with the staff and the sleep recliners, The Christian Bryant Foundation donated. Today, I left briefly, to go see Kaycee Brown and get some of the new shirts for the PICU staff, as I was walking out of PICU, I was hit briefly by the same smell (not a bad smell, just a smell), it made me think of Christian and the 42 days she spent in PICU...I pushed the emotion back, because I really did not want to be sad or think about those days when Christian was running the toughest race of her short life. Spending some time with Kaycee (who no longer works in PICU) and the other members of my PICU family was all good today. I truly love them all. I had a little time before picking up Bailey, so I phoned Lara Caughman that works for Make a Wish East Tennessee (she facilitated the tree that was planted at GPS in Christian’s memory). She was at the Make a Wish office, so I went by and delivered her shirts and had a nice visit with her. It was nice to see the work area for Make a Wish and meet one of her co workers. I then picked up my sweet Bailey, we stopped for a little gelato at Milk and Honey and then headed out to our construction site. Bailey had not been there in about a week and great progess has occured with the drier weather. Yesterday, when Chris and I went out, I climbed up on a big dirt pile to see the view and discovered a pumkin vine with blooms growing on our property. Today, Bailey wanted to see the pumpkin vine first and then she checked out the progress on our new house. Today, I also found some gold ribbon for the “Go Gold For Childhood Cancer Awareness” project. I had a nice conversation with Michelle Kersey, whose daughter, McKinley just finished what we hope will be her last chemotherapy treatment for Burkitt’s Lymphoma. They are also a Dalton family and Michelle is going to be helping with the “Go Gold” project and asking her church to get involved. So, today, has been a good day! I hope everyone has a great Friday and a good weekend. Bailey turns 15 Monday, September 9th, so will be doing some Birthday celebrating this weekend. - Robyn
