September 7th - Impossibilities Matthew 17:14-20 On this date in 1908 in the span of four days, Senators’ pitcher Walter Johnson throws a shutout against the Yankees for the third consecutive game. Johnson’s two-hit shutout in the first game of the Labor Day doubleheader is preceded by Friday’s six-hitter and Saturday’s four-hit shutout. Sunday was a day off due to New York’s prohibition of baseball on Sunday at that time. In today’s game that feat would be impossible. A man approached Jesus wanting Him to heal his son who was prone to seizures. The man had taken the boy to the disciples, but they could not heal him. Jesus healed the boy and later the disciples approached Him asking why they could not get the job of healing the boy done. Jesus answered them they had to have faith. If they just had the faith of a mustard seed (the smallest of all seeds), mountains could be moved. Jesus tells them, “Nothing will be impossible for you.” We can do great things for God’s Kingdom only if we have faith. God wants to accomplish great things through us, the only thing that holds us back is our lack of faith. Impossible is NOT in God’s vocabulary.
