September 8, 2013: Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time Gospel: LUKE 14:25-33 25 Great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them, Q: Sino ang kasama ni Jesus sa paglalakbay? 26 “If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Q: Ano ang sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila? Paano daw magiging alagad ni Jesus? Note: Detachment even to close relatives; leave attachments in life in order to follow Jesus 27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Q: Sino ang hindi maaaring maging alagad ni Jesus? 28 Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion? Q: Anong prinsipyo ang ipinapahiwatig ni Jesus dito? Note: vision, plan, prepare, act 29 Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him Q: Ano ang maaaring mangyari kapag kulang sa paghahanda? 30 and say, ‘This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.’ Q: Ano ang matatanggap niya mula sa mga tao? 31 Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down and decide whether with ten thousand troops he can successfully oppose another king advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops? Q: Sino naman ang example Niya dito? 32 But if not, while he is still far away, he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms. Q: Ano ang magiging desisyon ng hari kapag nalaman niya ang kahinaan ng kanyang hukbo? 33 In the same way, anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.” Q: Kaya’t sino ang hindi tagasunod ni Jesus? Key points/summary: vision, planning, preparation, decision-making; detachment from worldly possessions; follower of Jesus Reading 1: WISDOM 9:13-18B 13 Who can know God’s counsel, or who can conceive what the LORD intends? Q: Ano ang tanong ng may-akda tungkol sa kaisipan at kalooban ng Diyos? ? 14 For the deliberations of mortals are timid, and unsure are our plans. Q: Hanggang saan ang kaisipan at panukala ng tao? 15 For the corruptible body burdens the soul and the earthen shelter weighs down the mind that has many concerns. Q: Ano daw ang nagyayari sa kaluluwa at kaisipan ng tao? 16 And scarce do we guess the things on earth, and what is within our grasp we find with difficulty; but when things are in heaven, who can search them out? Q: Ano pa ang kahinaan ng tao? 17 Or who ever knew your counsel, except you had given wisdom and sent your holy spirit from on high? Q: Kaya’t sino ang makaaalam ng kalooban ng Diyos? 18 And thus were the paths of those on earth made straight. Q: Saan patungo ang taong alam at sinusunod ang kalooban ng Diyos? Key points/summary: God’s counsel and intentions if followed will lead to straight path; man’s weakness Connection of Gospel and 1st reading: Man’s wisdom is limited. If man detaches from worldly thinking, he will be a follower of Jesus into straight paths of life. Reading 2: PHILEMON 9-10, 12-17 9 I, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner for Christ Jesus, Q: Sino ang nagsasalita? 10 urge you on behalf of my child Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment; Q: Sino ang ipinapakiusap niya kay Philemon? 12 I am sending him, that is, my own heart, back to you. Q: Ano ang plano ni Paul kay Onesimus? 13 I should have liked to retain him for myself, so that he might serve me on your behalf in my imprisonment for the gospel, Q: Ano sana ang pwedeng gawin ni Pablo? 14 but I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that the good you do might not be forced but voluntary. Q: Nguni’t ano ang isinaalang-alang ni Pablo? 15 Perhaps this is why he was away from you for a while, that you might have him back forever, Q: Ano ang napagtanto ni Pablo tungkol sa mga pangyayari kay Onesimus? 16 no longer as a slave but more than a slave, a brother, beloved especially to me, but even more so to you, as a man and in the Lord. Q: Sa pagbabalik ni Onesimus kay Philemon, ano na ang magiging relaslyon nila? 17 So if you regard me as a partner, welcome him as you would me. Q: Ano ang kundisyon para matanggap ni Philemon si Onesimus? Key points/summary: Paul’s acceptance of Onesimus as a beloved brother; returns Onesimus to Philemon Connection of 3 readings: Man’s wisdom is limited. If man detaches from worldly thinking, he will be a follower of Jesus into straight paths of life. Paul is an example of Jesus’follower. He returned Onesimus, a beloved brother, to a partner Philemon. Hibla: Jesus is our priority. Application: What have you done in order to bring peace to and build-up a friendship? How do we try to accomplish our goals? Do we make plans on how to do the will of God and accomplish our heavenly mission? Responsorial Psalm: PS 90:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 14-17 In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.
