September 8th, 2014: Talked to Evelios teacher today to discuss when well start lengthening his school day. We werent on the same page at all so we stayed on the phone for at least an hour. She wants to wait until his communication skills are improved so he can fully understand the rules and all that. I doubt his communication skills will improve enough this year in the amount of time he does attend school for this to happen. I know Evelio, and it doesnt matter how much time you spend trying to explain to him whats going to happen, as soon as the change happens, Hell will break loose anyway. She is afraid of him losing the progress he has made thus far, which I understand. But I dont think hell lose anything. I think hell just refuse to work because he is frustrated. But hell get over that eventually. She said that theyd been working on walking him back to the school doors before he leaves with the hopes of teaching him that hell have to go back inside instead of leaving directly after recess like he has been doing. So we finally agreed that shed continue working on getting him used to going inside to the classroom and wed talk again in 2 weeks. I told her that I didnt want to wait to start for another month so I hope they make progress in the next two weeks. I understand that hes going to be upset and mad at the change but hes been leaving school at 12:30 since he began school 4 years ago so of course itll be a tough transition. Its not my fault, I tried to get them to extend his day some over a year ago. Also, she told me that as the day gets extended there may be times when they are unable to transport him home, Ill have to check into it but I dont think they are allowed to refuse to transport him home. I have a headache. I love his teacher but this is something Im not budging on. I understand her professional opinion but I know my child and either way its going to be tough so no point in waiting in my opinion.
