September is Suicide Prevention Month, an opportunity to focus on issues of mental health and how they impact individuals and families. When it comes to addressing suicide and issues of mental health, information is critical, especially when it comes to our military men and women and their families. This year I introduced a bill that has garnered widespread, bipartisan support, to more accurately track suicide rates for military family members and service members in the National Guard and Reserves. The most complete data possible will allow us to better understand the extent of suicides and attempts so that prevention programs can be improved and assistance more effectively provided. Military members and their families sacrifice so much in service to this country, and we have a responsibility to do everything we can to protect and serve them. tsongas.house.gov/press-releases/tsongas-introduces-bill-to-better-track-military-suicides/
