September is a significant month to help raise awareness about two important issues in Anchorage: hunger and school attendance. This morning, I was happy to speak about these at the Food Bank of Alaska. The Food Bank would like to invite our community to learn, give, volunteer, or advocate against hunger during Hunger Action Month. One way is to collect food for Anchorage United Way’s Day of Caring Food Drive, on Friday, September 12. Drop off food between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Food Bank of Alaska, 2121 Spar Avenue. The Food Bank also accepts food donations Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit foodbankofalaska.org for a Hunger Action Month activity calendar with more ways to participate. School Attendance Awareness month kicks off a year-long campaign to increase attendance, supporting the District goal of 100% of students attending 90% or more of the time.
